Expanded Playoff Format Coming To League1 BC
The 2023 League1 BC season will introduce a new, larger playoff format for the fledging league.
The league’s first campaign saw the top two teams face eachother in a championship final, with the TSS Rovers winning both trophy honours and a berth in the 2023 Canadian Championship.
The 2023 League1 BC season will kick off on Saturday, April 29 and run through to Sunday, July 23, at which point a new playoff format will see the top four teams of each division progress to the playoff semi-finals the following weekend.
It’s a system that has worked well for the Canadian Premier League, as it keeps sides in the playoff race for longer periods of time.

The semi-professional league has confirmed that the playoff period will see the top-seeded team hosting the fourth-seeded team, and the second-seeded team hosting the third. The two winners will progress to the 2023 League1 BC Championship Final set to take place over the BC Day long weekend at a neutral venue.
Thanks to Harbourside FC bumping up the league’s team count from seven to eight, the regular season will now see each club feature in fourteen matches, with each team playing eachother once at home and once away.
Fans taking in the League1 BC action will enjoy double-headers on each club’s matchday, with both the men’s and women’s teams set to play one after another throughout the course of the regular season.
The regular season champion of the women’s division will represent the league at the Women’s Inter-Provincial Championship, which pits them against opponents from League1 Ontario and the PLSQ.
The regular season men’s champion will qualify directly to the Canadian Championship instead.
The full schedule for the 2023 League1 BC season will be released the week of February 13.
