CF Montreal Suffer Second Consecutive Loss Against Orlando City
CF Montreal lost their 14th game on the road this season a new low on Saturday night losing 3-0 to Orlando City SC who dominated the game from start to finish.
“On the road, we didn’t have a good year”, Hernan Losada told the media in his post-game press conference. “It’s thanks to our home record that we are in the position we are in. It has been extremely difficult for us on the road.”
The home side started the game on the front foot, controlling 80% of the possession early on and it seemed like deja vu from last Saturday’s game in Atlanta.
“We had a chance to take points on the road, but we weren’t at the right level. The next two home games are crucial for us and for our future, but I am sure we will play two good games and make the playoffs.”
CF Montreal will now head home to face the US Open Cup champions the Houston Dynamo before hosting the Portland Timbers next Saturday at Saputo Stadium.
“I think we will be very critical of ourselves and take the time to reflect on the game. We faced a good team with good players, and the last two games haven’t been good…but when we play at home we play better.”
Orlando City opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Facundo Torres got a cross from Rafael Santos and fired a quick shot that went off CF Montreal keeper Jonathan Sirois and into the net and was given as an own goal.
I asked Losada about his take on why things have gone so bad this year for his team on the road and he feels it’s a trend that teams play better at home than on the road.
“I address it as the way it is and accept we were not good enough on the road this season. It is a tendency around the league. We didn’t find ways to be better on the road, and most teams are stronger at home.”
Orlando City doubled its lead in the 50th minute when Dagur Thorhallsson got a great cross pass across the face of the goal and managed to put the ball into the net.
“We played the number one and number two teams in the Eastern Conference these last couple of games,” said Mason Toye in his post-game press conference.
“They were not easy games. We knew coming into the game it was going to be a difficult game. Playing Orlando in their stadium is always tough and they got off to a hot start, and in the second half it got away from us.”
Four minutes after making it 2-0 Orlando City looked hungry for more and their star player Torres scored to make it 3-0 after another sensational cross pass from Ivan Angulo and beating Sirois.
“Collectively we need to keep going and keep pushing. We need to focus on the next two home games and try to get as many points as possible going into the end of the season.”
CF Montreal confirmed after the game that Gabriele Corbo will be suspended Wednesday night against the Houston Dynamo due to a yellow card accumulation.
On another note, Mathieu Choiniere played his 100th game with the team tonight while Romell Quioto, who got his first start in over two months, played his 150th.
