Chinonso Offor leads CF Montreal past Inter Miami
CF Montreal managed to hang on to beat Inter Miami on Saturday night at Saputo Stadium 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Chinonso Offor.
The game featured a Latin Night theme with sunny hot weather and Spanish music in front of a sellout crowd of 19,619 – the Stadium was rocking.
“It was the plan to make that change at half-time”, said head coach Hernan Losada when asked about the crucial changes he made to swing the game in his favour.
“We wanted to put fresh legs on the pitch. Putting in Ariel Lassiter and playing him with Chinonso Offor because he needs someone to cross the ball into the box for him.”
That’s exactly what happened in the 53rd minute as Lassiter did just that putting an amazing cross into the box and Offor diving to get his foot on the ball and beating Inter Miami keeper Drake Callender.
From there it was all Jonathan Sirois who secured another clean sheet and was outstanding, making some key saves at crucial parts of the game.
CF Montreal started the game on the front-foot despite it not usually happening in the last couple of games, but around the 30th minute, the visitors started pushing back.
He made his first save on Dixon Arroyo and then two minutes later made another save on Leonardo Campana.
“It was great to play at home”, Sirois told me. “We had the crowd behind us and it pushed us me included to give our best performance and get the three points.”
He also denied Corentin Jean and Nicolas Stefanelli twice in the second half en route to a solid home win.
“When you have a keeper like that making big saves it pushes you to play better”, said Rudy Camacho. “It gave us the confidence needed to close out the game and get the win.”
CF Montreal’s busy schedule continues as the team will travel to Washington on Tuesday to face DC United on Wednesday night before heading to Philadelphia to play the Union on Saturday night.
