In a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup semifinal, CF Montreal lost 1-0 to NYCFC who were able once again to stun the home team in front of a packed away supporter section.

“They came with a well-organized game plan,” Losada said in his post-game press conference. “It was difficult to find space but I felt like we did everything we could.”

The game was delayed 90 minutes due to rain, thunder, and lightning, but finally kicked off at 9:03PM – and the visitors, from the get-go, showed they came to play.

Three minutes into the game Santiago Rodriguez for the visitors had the first scoring chance of the night and Jonathan Sirois, who was solid all night, made his first save.

“If the other team scores first it’s hard to come back and they played well and they didn’t give us the time or space and it wasn’t easy for our strikers tonight.”

In a game that was very similar to the game against Charlotte last week, we didn’t see a lot of chances tonight from either side and NYCFC took advantage in the 33rd minute.

Matias Pellegrini managed to get a cross from Braian Cufre and pulled off an incredible scissor kick to get the ball over the head of Sirois to open the scoring.

“From what I saw it was a cross from the right side. It was a spectacular goal, and it’s not easy.”

Mason Toye, who is slowly starting to find his form, had an incredible chance in the 51st minute in a one-on-one situation, but Luis Barraza made a monumental save en route to a clean sheet.

“Our aggressiveness wasn’t there”, Toye responded. “We had to figure out our press throughout the game and we need to continue to work on that and get better at it.”

I asked Toye what’s the best thing to solve an issue when the team is struggling offensively.

“We need to keep shooting and we didn’t shoot the ball enough tonight. I had an opportunity inside the box and could have done a bit better and could have had more composure.”

CF Montreal will have the entire week to prepare for their next game next Saturday against Atlanta United at Saputo Stadium.
