Toronto FC Take Series Sweep Over New England Revolution

Toronto FC ended its three-game losing streak after a 1-0 win at home over New England Revolution, taking the series sweep after beating the visitors 1-0 earlier in the 2024 MLS season.

Toronto’s sole and winning goal comes from a 66th minute strike from Prince Owusu, who finished a chance with a quick-thinking aerial backheel.

Prince Owusu’s goal marked his fourth this season, with two of the goals coming off the bench in last week’s loss at Charlotte.

The Reds almost added another goal in the 76th minute but Federico Bernardeschi’s penalty was stopped by goalkeeper Henrich Ravas.

New England also had multiple chances to tie the game, but goalkeeper Sean Johnson was up to the challenge tonight whenever the Revs threatened to score. Johnson’s performance would earn him man of the match honours.

Johnson came up with a big save in the 51st minute denying Giacomo Vrioni from scoring a one on one goal. Sean Johnson’s shutout at BMO Field marks it his third this season and Toronto’s fifth.

Coach Herdman’s side definitely needed this win to get them back on track after suffering three back-to-back losses. This win will hopefully bring in some overall team confidence for the Reds as they welcome League1 Ontario Champion Simcoe County Rovers in the Canadian championship on Wednesday, following which they will pay Orlando City SC on Saturday.
