Toronto FC are set to host Sporting Kansas City (1-1-3, 6pts) for their third home match of the season. The Reds will look to record a third straight home win to open an MLS campaign for the third time in club history.

This is all in the hands of a couple of notable players from last weeks home matchup against Atlanta United, where we saw goalkeeper Luka Gavran record yet another clean sheet in the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

Some other notable points that can be the game changer are the two players named in this last weeks team of the matchday honours: Federico Bernardeschi and Tyrese Spicer.

Tyrese Spicer made his first start with the Reds last weekend and also scored his first MLS career goal. With this goal in his first career start against Atlanta last weekend, the Trinidadian became the sixth different number one overall pick to score in his first career start.

Another notable mention comes from Prince Owusu, who also managed to follow in pursuit of Spicer’s pattern and scored his first MLS career goal as well.

Coach Herdman will have to manage the squad and seek out and fight for another win at home amidst a injury problem. As recently revealed, Lorenzo Insigne is the latest Toronto FC to fall to the injury crisis at TFC as he is set to miss six weeks with a hamstring injury.

β€œIt has been next man up,” said TFC head coach John Herdman after the Atlanta matchup, and it will look to be the same case against Sporting as the injury crisis remains. Toronto FC will be without GK Sean Johnson, DF Nicksoen Gomis, DF Richie Laryea, DF Shane O’Neill, DF Raoul Petretta, MF Brandon Servania.

Coach Herdman will be happy to have midfielder Deybi Flores back in the roster aa he returns from international duty with Honduras.

The injuries will be a huge test for the Reds and Coach Herdman as they are set to face Sporting at BMO Field as they continue to climb back from the 2023 season.
