Espejo Completes Move from Atletico Madrid To Osasuna
Former Atletico Ottawa loanee Diego Espejo will continue his sporting career with Navarrese side Osasuna after spending the last several years in the Atletico Madrid development pipeline.
The last three seasons have seen the defender embark on just as many loans, with two consecutive seasons in the Canadian Premier League with Atletico Ottawa being followed by a spell with Spanish fourth division side Orihuela CF this spring.

Espejo was just one appearance short of fifty for Ottleti, establishing himself as a top calibre CPL centre-back who became an ever-present Spanish presence in the backline alongside Miguel Acosta before elaving at the end of 2023.
This year he featured for Orihuela seventeen times, helping them reach the promotional finals.
Having been a long-term development project for the red-and-white – he arrived to the academy some eight years ago – he’s now slated to attempt to rise through the development ranks of La Liga side Osasuna instead.
“From Atletico de Madrid we continue to wish the greatest success to Diego Espejo in this new professional stage,” read a statement from his former club.

While Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement with Osasuna for the transfer of the defender, the full details of the move have not been disclosed.
Atletico Madrid finished third in last year’s La Liga campaign, with Osasuna finishing seventh. In a fun bit of CPL trivia, former Ottleti goalkeeper Nacho Zabal began his career with the latter.
The 2024 Atletico Ottawa defensive line saw plenty of change, with star-studded domestic arrivals like Matteo de Brienne and Amer Didic arriving along with the international loans of Liberman Torres and Dani Morer.
