Northern Super League side AFC Toronto has brought in its second-ever player signing, with 22-year-old forward Leah Pais reuniting with Jade Kovacevic at the NSL launch team.

The Mississauga native has already etched her name in the professional level through Icelandic side Throttur Reykjavik, where she competed against Halifax’s Erin McLeod.

When the opportunity to play professionally back home opened up, however, Pais was quick to grab hold of an opportunity to reunite with Kovacevic, with whom her playing career previously overlapped in League1 Ontario with Vaughan.

Pais was once named Young Player of the Year in the semi-pro provincial league’s rankings, earning first-team all star rankings in both 2019 and 2023.

Her collegiate career saw her tally 17 goals and 10 assists through her her time in NCAA Division 1 footy, where she represented the University of Florida, University of Pittsburgh; and University of New York at Albany.

“Leah’s path to this point speaks volumes about the kind of player she is,” adds AFC Toronto head coach Marko Milanovic, who describes her as having a never-say-die attitude.

“Leah is already playing out in her head what kind of player she wants to be – a determined competitor who will do whatever it takes to win. We’re thrilled to see how her energy and tenacity will impact our team this season.”
