League1 Ontario standout Alexander Zis is on the move once again, this time landing in the western shores of Lake Simcoe with the Simcoe County Rovers.

Announced Sunday via their social media accounts, the Rovers revealed that the Oakville native will be bolstering the club’s midfield for the 2024 season.

The 25-yearaold began his tenure in L1O back in 2014 as a member of TFC III squad during the league’s early years before continuing down the collegiate route with Guelph Gryphons and the University of South Florida Bulls. Spending two seasons in the Sunshine State, Zis would return homeward with the Gryphons for 2019, recording 34 points over 15 games in a single season.

Under the tutelage of former Gryphons and Guelph United Head Coach Keith Mason, Zis quickly cemented himself as a starter in the 2021 L1O season with 8 goals on the season. He would play a key part in the Royal City club’s eventual League victory in 2021.

A stint with ProStars FC in 2022 would prove to be slightly less fruitful for the dynamic and aggressive Zis, but would play into a move closer to home with Milton’s Scrosoppi FC for the 2023 season.

With Scrosoppi, he would claim his third title in the provincial pro-am ranks as his side finished as a regular season League1 Ontario champion, with Zis recording nine goals and a league-high sixteen assists en route to a championship final loss to the Simcoe County Rovers.

Unfortunately, this move does represent the potential end of a potential pro deal for Zis: as reported earlier this year by Northern Tribune, the midfielder was signed by Saudi third-tier side Wej SC not long ago.

Zis had come close to the professional level within his native Canada after being drafted 8th overall by Forge FC in the CPL-U SPORTS Draft back in 2019, though a contract never came to fruition with the Hamilton-based club. He had also developed with the TFC Academy as a teenager.
