Former Cavalry, Simcoe Rovers Midfielder Ethan Beckford Signs With Atherton Colleries

Having hoisted the Canadian Premier League regular season trophy last year, Ethan Beckford has now landed at his second club in the lower tiers of England in just as many months.

The Manchester-born attacker has signed with seventh-tier side Atherton Collieries, having made seven appearance for former side Havant & Waterlooville following his return to English football earlier this year.

The 24-year-old midfielder had made fourteen league appearances for Cavalry in the first half of the 2023 CPL season, but was not included in the squad for the latter half of the campaign – nor its playoff push to the final afterwards.

His move to Canada’s top flight came after we listed him as one of the five League1 Ontario players we said could make the jump, with Ethan scoring an astounding fifteen goals in seventeen appearances for the Simcoe County Rovers in the preceding L1O regular season.

Cavalry revealed Ethan Beckford had been transferred to a club in the United Kingdom ahead of the club’s Concacaf Champions Cup debut in February, marking a premature end to the two-year deal he had signed a year prior.

Beckford – who began his professional career with Toronto FC II – has played non-league football in Manchester before, suiting up for Curzon Ashton Football Club, Hyde United, Ramsbottom United, Ashton Athletic, and Irlam before he returned to Ontario for the Simcoe County Rovers.

Now landed at Skuna Stadium, it remains to be seen if Beckford’s move back home comes as an interlude between professional appearances, or if the 24-year-old will cement himself in English non-league football for the foreseeable future.
