Atletico Ottawa Adds Local Talent Omar Darwish
Teenage talent Omar Darwish is back for another developmental stint with Atletico Ottawa.
The capital city announced this morning that the 2005-born midfielder returns on a new development deal for the remainder of the season, having proven his worth for the opportunity with PLSQ affiliate OSU Atletico.
The West Ottawa Soccer Club product was recruited last season after being identified through the club’s Atletico Madrid Development Program, and even travelled with the team for Spain in this year’s preseason.
He’s been described as an integral piece for PLSQ side OSU Atletico this season, with strategic player development being put at the forefront of the team. Darwish will be able to play with his community club as part of the development contract.
“Omar has shown our technical staff that he can make the jump, and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow with this new opportunity,” added Atletico Ottawa CEO Fernando Lopez.
His Canadian Premier League side has had a busy two days of roster adjustments, with foreign talents Alberto Zapater and Ruben Del Campo being unveiled yesterday shortly after draft pick Junior Agyekum was let go.
Omar’s CPL development contract allows him to feature in the club’s professional roster without losing his amateur eligibility.
