I-League Striker Edmund Lalrindika Set For Atletico Ottawa Training Stint

As we reported on yesterday, Inter Kashi forward Edmund Lalrindika is set for a spell with Atletico Ottawa – though it won’t come in the form of a loan move after all.

Instead, the 25-year-old I-League striker will embark on a training stint with the Canadian Premier League side in a similar manner to when Ollie Bassett and Nathan Ingham trained with Atletico San Luis last year.

All the clubs named above have partnerships with La Liga giant Atletico Madrid, who is utilizing its club network to help Lalrindika test himself in a top flight training environment abroad for the first time.

Lalrindika made the third-most goal contributions out of any player in the Indian second division this past season, tallying an incredible eight assists and four goals in 24 appearances. That helped Inter Kashi secure itself a top four spot, with the forward having also made history by scoring the club’s first-ever goal last year.

The I-League side has a partnership with Atletico Madrid, which helped piece together the training stint. Lalrindika reportedly had options available from India’s top flight, but the striker wanted to test himself abroad using Atletico Madrid’s global network instead.

Inter Kashi has a pre-existing relationship with Atletico Ottawa, purchasing Gianni Dos Santos in January for an undisclosed fee. The former CPL champion went on to make ten league appearances, contributing two goals and three assists before the I-League season wrapped earlier this month.

Lalrindika began his career with Bengaluru and, earlier on, saw himself loaned to both the youth-focused Indian Arrows and East Bengal. The centre-forward also tallied six appearances for India at the U-20 level, scoring twice.

Atletico Ottawa has cycled between Samuel Salter and Ruben Del Campo up top this season, so it’ll be interesting to see if training with Lalrindika pushes the duo of Ottleti strikers to elevate their game.

According to Josh Healey, the Ottawa-based side will be bringing in Spanish right-back Daniel Morer on a loan move from Portuguese side Famalicao.

The capital city club will be in action tomorrow for a Canadian Championship clash against Valour, who had previously knocked the side out of the tournament back in 2021.
