Atletico Ottawa Newcomer Mykelbust Available For Champions Cup
It was less than a week ago we reported that Norwegian striker Erling Myklebust looked set to sign with Atletico Ottawa.
The Canadian Premier League side has now confirmed its capture of the 29-year-old veteran, who arrives on a one-year deal that includes a club option for a further year.
The striker, who last played for Norwegian second division side Asane Fotball and delivered a six-goal haul in ’25, has been confirmed available for the club’s Champions Cup tilt against Nashville SC on Tuesday.
“I’m really excited to have joined the best club in Canada,” says Myklebust. “From the first conversation I felt a strong connection with the ambitions and environment here, and I’m looking forward to contributing on and off the pitch and growing together with the team.”
Myklebust began his career prospecting for first division side FK Haugesund, earning a handful of top division appearances before going on loan stints to Norwegian lower-tier sides Stord IL and SK Vard, with the centre-forward eventually signing with the latter. He featured in eight games for Faroese side 07 Vestur before his four-year stint with Asane Fotball, where he procured a healthy return of 35 goals and ten assists in 109 appearances.
With golden boot winner Samuel Salter having transferred tto Sweden and key creator David Rodriguez back in Mexico, Atletico Ottawa has needed to pivot quickly to fill those gaps in attack. To that end, more signings are expected in the coming weeks.
“Erling is a complete player and goal-scoring threat that fits the mold of what we expect from our forwards in this current system.,” says Atletico Ottawa GM JD Ulanowski. “He brings a strong profile as a modern number nine and will be able to impact games through his all-around play on the pitch.”
Atletico Ottawa’s continental match against Nashville FC will be their first on the international stage. It comes after the capital city club won the playoff championship in a match highlighted by the plus-one-billion-views Icycle Kick. No word yet on how Myklebust is with similar acrobatic goals.
