Ingham, Bassett Return From Liga MX Training Stint
The trial period of Atletico Ottawa duo Nathan Ingham and Ollie Bassett with Atletico San Luis has officially come to a close.
The Liga MX side had taken the two CPL talents in for training at the start of the month, allowing the Mexican top flight side to get a good look at the talent level available within their sister club.
While the duo were always expected to return to the nation’s capital, one never knows what can happen through a multi-week training spell. It’ll have been a good experience for both key CPL players, who trained with a first team who played against the likes of Guadalajara and Monterrey during their spell in San Luis Potosi.
The 2022 CPL season proved to be a big one for both Ingham and Bassett: the former arrived to Atletico Ottawa on a multi-year deal, recording ten clean sheets and earning a golden glove nomination as he helped the team reach a first-ever CPL Final. Meanwhile, Bassett produced a team-leading eight goals en route to Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year award wins.
“Top players surrounded by amazing people,” reflect Bassett, who was playing outside of professional football just a few years ago. “Great to see what it takes to reach the next level. I hope to see you all again in the future.”
Atletico San Luis had sent Mexican forward Victor Moragrega on loan to Ottawa this year, with the relationship between both of the Atletico Madrid affiliate sides opening opportunities for players at both clubs.
This month has seen three Atletico Ottawa departures, with midfielder Abdoul Sissoko signing with Qadsia SC, Brian Wright moving to York United, and star striker Ballou Tabla being sold to Manisa FK for an undisclosed, but reportedly high, fee.
While Ballou will leave big shoes to fill, Atletico Ottawa fans will breath a sigh of relief that their star goalkeeper and the league’s MVP are returning to the fold with some extra pep in their step ahead of preseason camp.
