Atletico Ottawa Adds TFC2 Midfielder Marko Stojadinovic
Atletico Ottawa has just announced the first brand new signing of the CPL team’s title defense campaign.
The capital city club has signed 21-year-old Canadian midfielder Marko Stojadinovic on a two-year deal that includes a club option for 2028.
The Caledon, Ontario native arrives from the MLS Next Pro ranks as a product of Toronto FC II, putting forth two goals in 26 matches to cap off his third season with the side. He’s racked up 67 appearances for TFC2 in all, showing comfort as both a centre-back and full-back before cementing his role in the middle of the park.
Stojadinovic looks like quite an astute pickup from Atletico Ottawa: he was an MLS Next Pro league-leader in defensive duels and interceptions. Having been part of the MLS side’s academy beforehand, he also developed in Germany with SC Verl’s U-19 ranks and has represented Canada at the U-15 level.
“Marko is a versatile midfielder who combines technical quality with high work rate and a determination to cover vast expanses of the pitch,” says Atletico Ottawa general manager JD Ulanowski, who says the youngster adds a different dimension to the Ottleti midfield.
“At 21 years old, Marko is ready for the challenge of the Canadian Premier League as Atlético Ottawa continues to reinforce our commitment to developing and championing young domestic talent.”
Stojadinovic says he’s excited to join the reigning Canadian Premier League champions, stating that his initial discussions with head coach Diego Mejia and general manager JD Ulanowski gave him a good vision on the project.
“I admire the team’s style of play, and I’m convinced that this is the correct next step for me,” says the club’s newest signing, who says Ottawa’s midfield has proven itself to be the best in the league already, making the experience a good challenge for him.
“I’ve come here to prove myself and help the club bring even more success to the city of Ottawa.”
The club currently has just nine players guaranteed to return from its title-winning season. There are a number of star players on expiring deals, like Nathan Ingham and Amer Didic, with MVP striker Samuel Salter set for Swedish top flight side GAIS.
The loan of string-puller David Rodriguez, who scored a brace to win the club its first-ever North Star Cup, is also back with Atletico San Luis following the expiration of his loan.
Midfielders Gabriel Antinoro and Jean-Aniel Assi are on guaranteed deals into 2026, and will join Marko in the middle of the park.
Atletico Ottawa will be back in action for the club’s first foray into the Concacaf Champions Cup this February, which would be Stojadinovic’s first taste of continental action.
