Atletico Ottawa Replaces Dos Santos With Dos Santos

Atletico Ottawa has found itself a replacement for international winger Gianni Dos Santos, and it comes in the shape of the man who crushed the club’s spirits late last year: Kevin Dos Santos.

The Portuguese winger now joins the capital city club on a two-year deal, further reinforcing a midfield regiment that has enjoyed an exciting offseason already.

The last one-and-a-half seasons have seen Kevin Dos Santos cement himself as force to be reckoned with in Canada’s top flight, with the winger racking up six goals and two assists during his time with York United.

The Nine Stripes had found a good rhythm with Kevin Dos Santos and Clement Bayiha on the wings last year, and while Martin Nash was high on the winger it appears that Atletico Ottawa has lured Dos Santos to the nation’s capital instead.

“By signing Kevin we get more offensive capacity,” says head coach Carlos Gonzalez/ “We are very happy to have another player whose characteristics make him capable of generating advantageous situations on his own. His technical ability and physical conditions will make him a player capable of playing in different positions in our attack.”

Before his time in Canada’s top flight, the Portuguese attacker was already proven to have a flair for scoring spectacular goals in the English lower divisions. It was some of his spectacular efforts while with Darlington FC that first drew attention from York United, and the rest was history.

The 24-year-old began his career in Portugal, spending time with Vilafranquense and Setubal Vitoria FC before landing with English non-league side Tadcaster Albion AFC. It was there where he played an FA Cup match against Darlington, who recruited the winger soon after playing against him.

The Atletico Ottawa offseason has been quite a tantalizing one, with the midfield already being bolstered by the likes of Forge’s Aboubacar Sissoko, the homecoming of Kris Twardek, return of Ballou Tabla, and the loan of Villarreal prospect Liberman Torres.

“I want to take the step to the next level, it’s where I want to be, and I think that the team will help me do that,” says Dos Santos himself. “The fans here, they give you that extra motivation, to show them you can be the best and I can’t wait to see them and have ten times more motivation to score in front of them.”
