Bev Priestman Reveals Pre-Camp Roster For SheBelieves Cup
On Wednesday Bev Priestman announced a roster of 18 players selected for a pre-tournament camp before the SheBelieves Cup in the US.
Canada is scheduled to face the US, Brazil, and Japan starting on the 16th of February. Priestman spoke to the media for the first time in 2023.
The roster looked a bit short, but Priestman confirmed that spots are available to earned at camp.
“It’s been a challenging time trying to finalize this roster,” Priestman said.
She did confirm that Desiree Scott was out due to an injury that she picked up at the end of 2022 and won’t be available for the February window.
Two more players recovering from serious injuries are Deanne Rose and Nichelle Prince, but Priestman said they should be ready for the World Cup in June.
Priestman was asked about expectations for this window and she said it has to do with working on the small details and fine-tuning.
“I don’t think my expectations change around this group and around top ten teams and it comes down to fine margins and that’s what I think of this tournament will be and on the day we can push and hopefully get the result that we need to.”
Canada will open up against their arch-rivals the US on February 16 at the Exploria Stadium in Orlando before heading to Nashville to face Brazil on February 19. They’ll then wrap up the tournament against Japan on the 22nd in Texas.
“What we are going to experience in the SheBelieves Cup is big crowds, big pressure, and everything you need going into a World Cup and all three teams are at different phases of where they are at in their preparation,” concluded Priestman today.
