As if Canada fans didn’t have enough soccer to look forward to.

On Tuesday, Canada Soccer announced that the Canadian Men’s National Team would face off against the USMNT in September, filling up the other spot in that window after announcing the game against Mexico earlier on.

Les Rouges will visit Kansas City once more on September 7th to face off against their biggest rivals, before facing off against Mexico on the 10th.

The last time these two sides faced was in the Quarter-Finals of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup last summer. The match ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw that had to be decided by a dramatic penalty shoot-out where the Americans came up victorious. Now with a new coach at the helm, it will be another chance at revenge for Canada against their bitter rivals.

“We’re excited about this friendly match in September against our biggest Concacaf rivals,” said MLS Canada Men’s National Team Head Coach Jesse Marsch in the press release. “This is yet another opportunity to continue our preparation for the 2026 World Cup by playing high-quality opponents.”

All three teams are currently competing in the 2024 Copa America, with Canada having already faced top opposition in Argentina in their 2-0 loss, and are due to square off with Peru later today to try to push for a knockout spot. USA and Mexico, meanwhile have started their tournament in top fashion, getting three points against Bolivia and Jamaica, respectively.

Should Canada make it through the group stages, they could face familiar foes in Mexico in the Quarter-Finals.

These friendlies in September continue Canada Soccer’s push to test their national team against top opposition in preparation for the 2026 World Cup in two summer’s time. Hopefully, Canadian fans will see further friendlies of high quality be scheduled for the October window in the near future, so as to continue this important trend.
