CANWNT Roster Drop for October Window
On Wednesday morning, Canada Soccer released the 21-player roster for Canada’s upcoming international friendly against Spain on Friday, October 25th at 4:00PM EST / 1:00PM PT.
The drop also announced some new and familiar faces added to the interim staff:
The 21-player roster only has a few new faces from what fans are used to. Quinn, Sydney Collins, and Jayde Riviere all miss out through injury, so we see the return of Liverpool’s Olivia Smith and HB Koge’s Emma Regan. Smith recently got some widespread attention after scoring Liverpool’s first WSL goal at Anfield last week against Manchester City. She was quite emotional for scoring that goal, especially with family and friends in attendance.
Regan, meanwhile, earns her call-up for the first time since last October. She has played every minute of Køge’s 2024 Kvindeligaen season, where they currently sit fifth. The North Vancouver native as scored one goal in nine appearances for the club so far this season, after her move to Denmark in 2023.
Aside from that, there was no other player inclusions of any real note. The biggest news actually came from the additions to the interim staff. Andy Spence will continue his role as interim Head Coach, but adds a few new faces to the team. Former player and Northern Super League founder Diana Matheson joins in a team support role, while WFC’s Girls Elite Head Coach Katelyn Collar joins as an interim technical assistant. The announcement comes a day after Collar’s Girls Elite team faced off against Christine Sinclair’s Portland Thorns in what looked to be Sinclair’s final match on home turf.
Maryse Bard-Martel also joins as an interim performance analyst. This is the Laval, Quebec native’s second time involved with a national team camp after joining up with the U-20’s in Costa Rica back in 2022. The match will be available to watch on the OneSoccer app, as well as on FuboTV and Telus Optik TV (Channel 980).
