The Canadian Premier League’s newest club is marching on to the semi-final of Canada’s domestic cup.

Tuesday night saw FC Supra du Quebec battle to a 3-3 draw against reigning CPL champions Atletico Ottawa, translating to a 6-4 aggregate win over both legs.

The result ensures a Canadian Premier League team will be in the Canadian Championship Final, as FC Supra and Forge are now locked in for a semi-final bout, while the reigning holders Vancouver Whitecaps will face CF Montreal in the other match.

The Quebecois side entered the nation’s capital with a 3-1 lead thanks to a superlative first leg performance. Goals from David Choiniere, Sean Rea, and Ibrahim Conde lifted them in the first leg, with two of them scoring in last night’s reverse.

It took the Quebecois visitors just eight minutes to draw first blood against Ottawa last night as CPL golden boot contender Loic Kwemi showed why he’s in the running to lead the scoring charts in Voyageurs Cup action, too:

Not to be outdone, Ibrahime Conde – who also started up top with Kwemi – then doubled the lead for Supra just a few minutes later, heading home the second goal of the night following a nice aerial ball from Diyaeddine Abzi:

Atletico Ottawa went into half-time down 5 – 1 on aggregate, putting their backs up against the wall as the reigning CPL champions faced a rout in the domestic cup.

The second half saw Nicholas Fleuriau-Chateau bag an early one back for the side, however, opening hopes of a miracle in the capital – and given how matches between the clubs has gone, it wasn’t off the table:

Nick Razzaghi’s men wouldn’t allow for a comeback, however, and this time it was Sean Rea finding the scoresheet as Ibrahim Conde turned assister in the 55th:

Head Coach Gustavo Leal didn’t take his foot off the gas even with a four-goal deficit, with Atletico Ottawa managing to claw back a second. As youngster Sergei Kozlovskiy forced a save from Milli, the ball was spilled for Fleuriau-Chateau to put home:

Atletico Ottawa would make it a respectable second-leg scoreline with a last-gasp equalizer from Ballou Tabla in the 94th minute, still bowing out 6-4 on aggregate – though Tabla became this year’s top goalscorer in the tournament with the effort:

That means that FC Supra du Quebec’s first-ever time in the Canadian Championship sees them advance to the semi-final stage against tournament heavyweight Forge FC, who routinely make deep runs.

Forge, who often dispatch MLS teams in their journey, bested Halifax four-nil in the preliminary round before taking on Quebec’s CS Saint-Laurent in the quarter-final stage. It was a closely contested quarter-final for the hammers, who emerged 3-2 over the League1 Quebec side from which FC Supra itself sprang from.

FC Supra du Quebec and Forge FC will now contest the semi-final stage on September 1 and 15, respectively.
