CPL Matchweek 6 Recap – Top Three Remain Undefeated

By on May 18, 2026 0 1833 Views

Following a week off from league play to allow for the odd Canadian Championship cupset or two, the Canadian Premier League roared back into action to complete round six this week. Well, perhaps roared isn’t the best word. It did a somewhat soft meow, with three of the four matches coming as one-nil wins, with the fourth match avoiding a such a scoreline by way of a last-gasp goal to make it a sole multi-goal result.

That being said, with the weekend seeing 104 shots fired, we saw all teams who were still undefeated all secure wins, allowing the league table starting to take some definitive shape. Without further ado, here’s how matchweek six of the Canadian Premier League unfolded:

The annual schoolday match has proven to be a hit, with Wednesday’s morning match seeing over 15,000 young fans deliver backdrop of high pitch screams, six-sevens, and even one pitch runner.

The hosts kept most of the action in Supra’s defensive end. Borges clipped the post, but the go-ahead goal would come from an unlikely source in defender Dan Nimick after he dribbled beyond three Supra players to strike one in from the edge of the box:

FC Supra du Quebec would come inches from an equalizer after Diyaeddine Abzi’s freekick pinged off the bar, with Loic Kwemi firing his one-on-one against Bertaud wide of target just minutes later. With those chances spurned, however, Forge FC laid claim to all three points to remain undefeated and top of the table.

Atletico Ottawa 1 – 0 Halifax Wanderers

In a battle of two sides facing scoring woes, it was a slim margin win for the host side. Ottleti enjoyed good hustle from Emiliano Garcia, with the Mexican helping set up his fellow Atletico San Luis loanee Jonantan Villal for the game’s only goal in the first half:

Halifax finished the first half with an expected goals of zero point zero by way of not having a fired a single shot, and while Lorenzo Callegari got some gears turning when he was substituted on in the second half, it was a rough day to be a Haligonian hunting for goals. Cyprian Kachwele had a breakaway in the first half but miss-dribbled his ball out of touch, with the striker missing an open net by way of lofting a ball to the post in the game’s dying minutes.

If anyone needed to sign an extra striker this year, it is the Halifax Wanderers.

Inter Toronto FC 1 – 0 Pacific FC

It was definetly a tale of two sides entering the match: Pacific still seeking its first win, and Inter Toronto still without its first loss. The Tridents looked more likely to go ahead early on after former ITO man Ronan Kratt felt he was fouled by Max Ferrari in the box. Head coach James Merriman trusted his attacker, and Football Video Support backed them up: a penalty was declared. Up stepped Alejandro Diaz, who fired low and left – directly into the smart dive of Diego Urtiaga:

Remarkably, this was the first time Alejandro Diaz had been stopped from the spot, having scored nine times out of just as many previous attempts.

Both sides racked up chances as an aggressive match played out, but it was Mauro Eustaquio’s side who broke the deadlock in the second half. With Ecuadorian winger Ariel Almagra making his debut off the bench, the substitute lofted in a cross that was struck well off the bounce by Peruvian striker Sebastian Gonzalez for his first Inter Toronto goal:

That would be the only goal of the match, keeping Inter Toronto undefeat but further cementing Pacific’s spot at the bottom of the table – a moment in time made worse by the returning Juan Quintana being sent off late for an errant elbow, putting a damper on his return to action after having been sidelined since May 2025.

Vancouver FC 0 – 2 Cavalry FC

The first half of this Western Canada clash saw both sides generate chances, with Martin Nash’s Vancouver FC looking organized and going toe-to-toe with their CPL powerhouse visitors. Chances came and went for both sides, with Nicolas Mezquida coming close for the hosts early on while German stalwart Tobias Warschewski fired a fast header just wide of target for the visitors.

The match looked destined for a draw before Tobias Warschewski put the visitors in front with twenty minutes to go, collecting a fine pass from Goteh Ntignee to complete a rapid counter attack by placing it beyond Callum Irving:

The Eagles did have a few more chances to equalize, but they weren’t the only side carving out opportunities. Cavalry would make good on theirs in the last minute, with defender Levi Laing taking advantage of an error from Irving to gain possession and pop in the insurance goal for the visitors. OneSoccer didn’t post this goal, but it left Vancouver FC in the bottom half and Cavalry undefeated and second in league standings.

With the final whistle of round six firmly sounded, the slim margins all contributed to the table taking some more definitive shape. Forge, Cavalry, and Inter Toronto (still called York United by Google) remain undefeated and are the top three of the league, while Atletico Ottawa, FC Supra du Quebec, Halifax Wanderers, and Vancouver FC are all one point back from the last of one another as a firm middle pack – meaning the fourth and final playoff spot is, at this stage, probably going to change hands aplenty.

That leaves Pacific FC as the odd one out, with SixFive Sports’ club for sale in a bad moment. The attack is actually quite good – and better than three teams above them – but the leaky defensive line has cost them a multitude of results, leaving them winless with a sole point after six games played.

Next weekend will see Halifax return home to face Inter Toronto, while Vancouver FC welcomes FC Supra du Quebec for the first time. Atletico Ottawa will face a tough visitor in Forge FC, while Pacific travel to Cavalry in a bid to start punching upwards.
