Bunbury: Quebec City Likely To Get CPL Team
Yesterday, Alex Bunbury spoke with TSN radio station Montreal 690 to discuss the inaugural Canadian Premier League game, but perhaps the biggest news stemmed from an update on Bunbury’s own CPL aspirations and news about the CPL coming to Quebec.
While he revealed his own team may not be ready by next year (though his sights are still on 2020), he stated he believes Quebec City will also get its own Canadian Premier League team.
I believe not only are we going to have a franchise in the greater Montreal area, we will also have a franchise in Quebec City coming up as well. Its going to be fantastic.

Two weeks ago, rumours popped up indicating that 5 different ownership groups were looking at establishing a Canadian Premier League club in the province of Quebec. Bunbury had previously stated that a Canadian league would need at least one, if not two or three, teams in the area. It appears having more than one Quebec-based side is a very real possibility.
Bunbury previously teased that a big announcement for his Laval-based bid would arrive in late April, but instead the realities have dictated that his CPL expansion bid may not become reality until 2021. In a direct communication, Bunbury reiterated that he wants to make sure the club’s foundation is solid.
In any event, the unexpected mention of Quebec City from a man heavily involved in the burgeoning league’s inner workings is certainly a pause for thought.
