Cavalry Captain Marco Carducci Leaves Club
Cavalry FC Captain and club talisman Marco Carducci is leaving the club after seven years between the sticks.
The Canadian goalkeeper was one of the club’s first-ever signings and immediately solidified himself as a top goalkeeper in the Canadian Premier League. The last seven years have seen him make 193 appearances, recording 67 clean sheets as he carved out two CPL Golden Glove Award wins, a regular season championship in 2023, and a North Star Cup in 2024.
He exits the side after securing passage to three consecutive playoff championships and having tasted continental action with the side, too.

His departure comes at the end of a three-year deal he signed after the tail end of the 2022 CPL season.
“I’m grateful for the seven seasons I had at Cavalry FC,” reflected Carducci as he touched on his growth since arriving in 2019 for the inaugural CPL season.

“My time here has been very special, with so many incredible moments that I’m grateful for. I’m thankful to have captained the club and brought trophies home to Calgary, among other meaningful milestones in my career. It has been an incredible experience with a lot of growth, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity that being at this club presented to me.”
What comes next remains to be seen: the Canadian Premier League has several starting goalkeeper positions without players locked in, like Halifax, Inter Toronto, and current champions Atletico Ottawa, with Nate Ingham’s contract also set to end.

“This is not an easy decision by any means,” explains Carducci, “but I’ve reached a point in my life and career where I’m ready for a new chapter and a new challenge, and now is the right time for it. I’d like to thank so many people but a huge thank you to the fans and everyone at the club for the support you’ve given me. It’s been an honour to have experienced everything alongside all of you.”
Cavalry boss Tommy Wheeldon Jr said that the 29-year-old has been an exceptional leader since his first arrival to the side.
“We won’t just miss his consistency and calm presence between the posts. We’ll miss the incredible human being he is. We’ve shared unforgettable highs and some difficult lows, both on and off the pitch, and I’m deeply grateful to Marco for trusting me to coach him and for everything I’ve learned from him along the way.”

“Saying goodbye is never easy, and today is no different, but this club will always be a home for him. Thank you for everything, Marco, you’ve left a lasting mark on all of us.”
While Marco Carducci’s next steps are a mystery for now, the uprooting of Cavalry’s captain and a club original is sure to shake up the offseason transfer market.
Marco isn’t the only CPL original to leave his club after seven seasons, with David Choiniere bidding farewell to Forge yesterday ahead of an expected move to FC Supra.
