Cavalry Locks In Kobza On Multi-Year Deal

21-year-old midfielder Eryk Kobza is stepping up as a full-time professional with Cavalry FC after impressing as a U-SPORTS prospect.

The North Vancouver-born youngster has now landed a two-and-half year contract that runs though to 2025, with a club option for a further year.

Kobza has made 14 appearances throughout his debut CPL season, with the University of Calgary product even bagging his first professional goal earlier this month.

The midfielder looks to be adapting well to the professional level in Canada, though that shouldn’t be a shock given that he’d played in the Polish II Liga for Sokol Ostroda before a stint in the third tier with Podlasie Biala Podlaska.

“Eryk has been a great addition to the squad this season,” confirmed head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr, who has the team at the top of the table. “He has come in and earned his playing time by learning our system quickly and making an immediate impact through his play on the pitch.”

“His intelligence, versatility, athleticism, and composure provide us great assets to work with and develop him further,” adds the gaffer.

The re-signed recruit offers some versatility for the head coach, with Kobza able to play in midfield or drop into the back line as needed.

The club has a strong track record of U SPORTS picks that includes current national team members Joel Waterman and Victor Loturi, with their first-ever draft pick Gabriel Bitar now with Vancouver FC.

Kobza was Cavalry’s second round pick in this year’s draft, with first round selection William Omoreniye failing to land a contract.

The retention of Kobza is Cavalry’s fourth bit of business in the midseason transfer window. The club traded Mikhael Cantave for Mael Henry to lock in more domestic U-21 minutes, saw Jose Escalante depart in a bizarre fashion, brought in former Valour star William Akio following a rough spell in Scotland, and now have Kobze on a multi-year deal.

Cavalry FC did not confirm the financial details of Eryk’s new contract.

You switched to calling him “Kobze” instead of “Kobza” in the second half of the article
