Malcolm Shaw Makes Shock Move To Spruce Meadows

In a surprising intra-league transfer, Trinidad and Tobago international Malcolm Shaw is joining Cavalry FC just one day after his departure from Atletico Ottawa was announced.

The 28-year-old striker had spent the last four years in the nation’s capital, with the Ottleti club original accruing some 19 goals and five assists through 83 appearances.

His new deal sees him land at Spruce Meadows for the upcoming CPL season with a club option for a further year.

Shaw’s last campaign for Ottleti was admittingly a quiet one, with the striker scoring just one goal in 22 league appearances before falling out-of-contract with the side. Still, the club has turned similiar transfers into gold before, like when Ali Musse arrived from Valour before exploding into one of the top attackers in the league.

“Malcolm is a proven forward in this league that has scored big goals and has experienced being a key part of a league winning side,” said Cavalry boss Tommy Wheeldon Jr.

“He has a great blend of power and finesse within his attacking play, whilst also being an excellent contributor to defensive moments and duals for his team.”

The newest Cavalry recruit broke through as a Trinidad and Tobago international last year, making seven appearances for the Soca Warriors and scoring his first international goal against El Salvador in Nations League action.

Cavalry seems stacked in attack with additions like Tobias Warschewski and Lleyton Brooks joining the attacking line, with William Akio and Myer Bevan still on the roster – though there are whispers that the latter was absent during preseason.

Malcolm Shaw’s new club finished as regular season champions last year – just as his former side Atletico Ottawa had a year before that – with Cavalry kicking off its sixth CPL season away to Forge FC on Saturday, April 13.
