Cavalry Adds MLS Midfielder Michael Baldisimo

We had teased that a new Cavalry midfielder would be announced soon just this morning, and the reigning CPL champions haven’t waited long for the form unveiling.

The Alberta-based club has confirmed the arrival of former San Jose Earthquakes defensive midfielder Michael Baldisimo on a one-year deal that includes a club option for 2026.

The 24-year-old Philippines international had made fourteen appearances for the Quakes since arriving to the MLS side in 2023, having previously suited up for hometown side Vancouver Whitecaps.

It was the ‘Caps that handed him his professional debut back in 2020, with the Vancouver native going on to make fifty appearances for the Canadian MLS side through all competitions – including Canadian Championship bouts against Valour and his now-current side, Cavalry FC.

“Michael is a player that I was fortunate enough to work with in Canada’s youth program more than ten years ago,” says Cavalry head coach and general manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr.

Flashback: Michael Baldisimo Accepts Philippines Call-Up

“I have monitored his progress over the years and also competed against him a handful of times. Each time he showed great ability to dictate the tempo of the play with the ball and disrupt the opponents when we do not have it. He is an exceptional passer of the ball and an intelligent reader of the game.”

While Baldisimo now represents the Philippines national team, he had once featured for Canada at the U-17, U-21, and U-23 levels before coming cap-tied to the Philippines last year.

His brother Matthew Baldisimo has called Canada’s top flight home for six seasons, but went out of contract with York United this offseason.

“I’m very excited to be joining Cavalry and to work with my teammates in bringing even more silverware to Calgary,” says younger brother Michael. “ATCO Field has one of the best atmospheres that I’ve played in front of, and I can’t wait to hear the fans in the stands this season.”

Fans won’t have long to wait for a potential debut, with Cavalry heading to Hamilton, Ontario to kick off against rival side Forge this Saturday. The match will be available on OneSoccer and TSN2.
