Cavalry Activates Club Option On Tom Field
The last of Cavalry’s existing roster questions has been answered with the return of Tom Field.
The 26-year-old left-back has his club option activated by the reigning regular season champions, capping off a comeback season that saw him re-sign with Cavalry nine months after the club previously let him go.
Field’s initial two seasons with the club saw him limited to just 12 appearances split between between a trio of injuries which sidelined the defender for large spells, including a preseason injury that saw him miss the 2022 CPL season in full.
The club had liked the full-back, but the postseason saw him released. He trained with them in preseason and returned to fitness with the Calgary Foothills, where he captained the team to a League1 Alberta title and, more importantly, showed consistent fitness.
His return to Cavalry in the following month saw him feature in four straight matches last year, with head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. ultimately choosing to give the left-back another go with a full season.
“Tom is a very intelligent and versatile footballer that suits our style of play,” said Tommy. “He’s shown great character and resilience in the way he has overcome a rough patch of his career with injury.”
“His quality is clear to see and let’s not forget his playing background before he came to us. He’s an asset to us day in day out on the training pitch and I look forward to working more with him in his next chapter of his career.”
The Brentford academy product – who had also suited up twice for the Republic of Ireland U-16 side back in the day – looks set to compete against Bradley Kamdem at left-back in the upcoming season.
Cavalry FC did not disclose the financial details of Tom Field’s club option.
