Miguel Acosta Lands with La Nucia
Atletico Ottawa’s all-time appearance leader Miguel Acosta has landed with CF La Nucia at the tail end of the Spanish transfer window.
Based in Spain’s fourth tier following relegation from the third flight in 2022, the club is in dire need of help and currently rests bottom of the table. Suffice to say, Acosta has his work cut after trading Ottawa’s red-and-white for the Valencian side’s red-and-black.
The Spanish full-back has represented Atletico Ottawa a record-breaking 85 times across all competitions, solidifying himself as a key presence on the backline through the tenures of both Mista and Carlos Gonzalez before seeing his option passed upon.
Acosta had arrived from Atletico Baleares, turning heads with his quick runs down the flank and a tireless engine that saw him defend the flank with gusto. The Spaniard tallied four goals and six assists over his three seasons in the capital, donning the armband on several occasions last year.
He’s no stranger to Spanish football, having progressed through the Atletico Madrid youth academy to feature for the reserves in 2017, with the Spaniard then suiting up for Getafe CF’s B team and third division side Atletico Baleares after that.
His departure from Atletico Ottawa came as a surprise for most, with the full-back suggesting he was keen to extend his stay at TD Place in an emotional farewell penned online.
Acosta could make his La Nucia debut as soon this Sunday against Torrent CF.
