Kamal Miller On His Return To Montreal
Saturday night game at Saputo Stadium featured a matchup of the three players that were traded.
One of the storylines going into the game on Saturday night was the return of Kamal Miller, while Bryce Duke and Ariel Lassiter faced their former club Inter Miami CF.
Northern Tribune had the unique opportunity to catch up with the Canadian defender after the game to discuss the match, the trade, and Kamal’s busy schedule ahead this summer.
“It was a good experience to be back”, Miller said despite the defeat. “I was very happy to see all the guys and my teammates. It was tough to play against them, but overall it was a good game and I couldn’t be happier to be back in the city.”
I asked Miller if the trade came to him as a surprise or even a shock, and he admits it was a mixed reaction.
“It was a bit of both. If it happened I would have preferred it to happen earlier in the year as I was getting comfortable and finally starting to get a bit of form with Montreal personally. It happened so fast, but it worked out for both clubs so I couldn’t be happier.”
Inter Miami is the second club Miller has played for in Florida after starting his career in MLS with Orlando City SC. asked him about the key differences.
“Honestly not too much, my teammates have done a good job of integrating me right away. I got there and three days later I played my first game, so it was a fast turnover. All the guys did amazing to make me feel welcome, comfortable, and happy.”
Finally, I asked Miller about his busy summer schedule which will feature a lot of games in MLS and playing both the Concacaf Nations League and the Gold Cup, and the keys to staying fit and healthy.
“It is exactly what I want, at the start of the year you set out to be healthy and play a lot of games, so I am very excited to play as many games as possible. I missed the last window so I am happy to be back and representing my country again.”
