Josh Belluz Turns Pro With Colorado In MLS NEXT Pro

Toronto-born defender Josh Belluz has put pen to paper on a pro deal with the Colorado Rapids 2.

The MLS NEXT Pro side likes what they’ve seen from the six-foot-six centre-back, a product of the Vaughan Soccer Club who suited up for their League1 Ontario side against CF Montreal in the domestic cup last year.

The 22-year-old – who can also play up as a defensive midfielder – is coming off fresh from five years of university football, most of which saw him play for Villanova University, for whom he tallied 51 appearances in four years with the team.

While he was eligible for 2022 MLS SuperDraft, he was passed on at the time and enrolled with Syracuse University for his final university season.

That proved a fruitful one for Belluz, who started all 21 matches for The Orange, leading the team’s roster for minutes played as he helped the side to seven clean sheets while helping create three goals at the other end.

“We are thrilled to add Josh to the Rapids family,” said Rapids 2 GM Brian Crookham. “His profile is a great match for the evolution of our playing style. He is aggressive and physically dominant while still having the ability to read the game well and find the right pass.”

Throughout and before his university education, Josh has always called Vaughan SC home, winning multiple OPDL Charity Shields and OPDL Ontario Cups. He featured once for the League1 Ontario side back in 2019, reprising his role in 2023 to rack up ten league appearances and one in the Canadian Championship.

The Colorado Rapids seem to have paths upwards to the first team, with the current roster including Moise Bombito, Ralph Priso, and recent first round SuperDraft pick Kimani Stewart-Baynes.
