Victoria native Sean Young has committed his long-term future to Pacific FC – a fitting moment on the eve of his one hundredth club appearance.

The 2024 Canadian Premier League season will be Sean’s fifth with the Tridents, with the midfielder now putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal that will run all way through to 2026, with a club option for a further year.

The 22-year-old has exhibited tremendous growth since signing with the club in the league’s second season. Now a regular engine in midfield, the physical Canadian has tallied six goals and four assists in 99 appearances, making him the club’s all-time appearance leader – and a 2021 CPL champion.

“We are happy to sign a new contract with Sean Young and excited celebrate his 100th game at our club on Friday night,” said James Merriman, Head Coach, Pacific FC.

The player – who developed with the likes of the Bays United Youth Football Club, Vancouver Island Wave program, and the recently-troubled Victoria Highlanders – says he’s grateful for what the club has given him as he aims to keep stepping upwards in his career.

“As a homegrown player here on Vancouver Island, Sean is a clear example of the opportunity provide by the Canadian Premier League for local players. We are proud of that legacy, and it is appropriate that he will become our first player to reach 100 games with Pacific. This is exciting for our Trident Development Program, our Vancouver Island Wave players and the overall pathway for aspiring young talents here on the Island.”

With rumours of Major League Soccer clubs sniffing about over the summer, Young’s extension could ensure Pacific receive compensation should he step up to a higher level in the years to come, following in the footsteps of Lukas MacNaughton.

Sean Young’s one-hundredth appearance is expected to take place this Friday. The team’s venue of Starlight Stadium will host visitors from Winnipeg in Valour FC, whom Young scored against last season.
