Alexander Achinioti-Jonsson Inks Multi-Year Deal With Forge
The reigning Canadian Premier League champions have secured the return of club original Alexander Achinioti-Jonsson, who is tied as the club’s all-time appearance leader.
He’s now signed a multi-year deal with the side, securing him for at least a sixth season and beyond.
The 27-year-old Swedish midfielder has been a steadfast influencer behind Forge’s continued success, helping the club to four playoff championship titles and showing astounding versatility by picking up the CPL Defender of the Year award when he filled in at centre-back two seasons ago.
The six-foot-two midfielder has made an astounding 147 appearances across all competitions, tying him with team captain Kyle Bekker for most appearances for the side as the duo head in to their sixth season.
“Alex has solidified himself as one the top and most influential players in the CPL,” said Forge boss Bobby Smyrniotis. “He embodies the core values that define our club and we are excited to continue building, achieving, and showcasing the true essence of Forge FC together.”
The midfielder has tallied five goals and five assists during his chapter in orange, where he’s cemented himself as an eagle-eyed passer and one of the best at not only controlling midfield, but pulling strings behind it.
While the structure of his multi-year deal was not disclosed, the return of AAJ is a significant boost for the club, particularly ahead of their Concacaf Champions Cup bout against Liga MX heavyweights CD Guadalajara.
The six-foot-two midfielder had previously played over 100 matches in his native Sweden with the likes of Hittarps IK, Helsinborgs IF, and IFK Varnamo, having previously suited up for Sweden at the U-19 level.
