Preseason Report: Forge Bests CD Irapuato
Reigning Canadian Premier League champion Forge FC has bested Mexican third tier side CD Irapuato 3-2 in a preseason friendly.
The squad flew down to Queretaro, Mexico last week and will remain there until the end of the month, with yesterday seeing them test their match fitness against the 112-year-old club.
Despite falling behind to the hosst, Forge draw level at half-time with a goal from Terran Campbell. The Hamilton-based side would chase the game again later in the second half, but would complete a fast double salvo with goals from defender Dominic Samuel and youngster Kevaughn Tavernier completing the comeback.
The hammers are set to test themselves against more sides whilst down in Mexico, where they’ll remain through to the end of the month as they prepare to host CD Guadalajara in less than two weeks time. Of course, who will broadcast that match remains a big question.
Goalkeeper Christopher Kalongo represented Forge in net, continuing the sustained absence in preseason photographs from Triston Henry.
The match was described as a pretty physical one, with host side CD Irapuato deploying plenty of roster rotation as Forge’s preseason first big preseason test unfolded.
