WATCH: Bekker Scores Olimpico In Eddies Demolition
Forge FC Captain Kyle Bekker often leads by example, and that’s exactly what he did last night when it came to a lethal, highlight-worthy set piece.
The 31-year-old hammer fired in a beautifully curved Olimpico goal to cap off a devastating first half demolition of a visiting Eddies side, catching Andreas Vaikla out for his first league goal of the season.
Take a bow, Bekker:
The match would end 5-1 in favour of Bekker’s side, who now find themselves just one win away from a potential rise up to second in league standings. Forge striker Woobens Pacius also netted the league’s fifth hat trick, becoming the second hammer to do so this year.
It also marked the first time Hamilton’s football team scored five goals in a single match.
Bekker’s moment of magic comes just after the veteran midfielder became the first Canadian Premier League athlete to crack 100 club appearances, with the former MLS man leading Forge to two consecutive league titles in 2019 and 2020.
“It’s a little surreal to think about,” he told CHCH TV’s Louie Butko at the time. “I think we’ve achieved a lot in our short existence as a club, and it’s been a great ride.”
The only other Olimpico scored in Canadian Premier League action came in the inaugural season, and it was scored by a player clad in orange: Tristan Borges.
Forge FC will be back inaction this Saturday as the club hosts a Valour FC side chasing their heels for a playoff spot.
