‘Prime Of His Career’: Galway United Signs Kris Twardek
Former Valour FC midfielder Kris Twardek has signed for League of Ireland side Galway United on a two-year deal.
The Canadian winger spent the last two seasons in Canada’s top flight with Atletico Ottawa and Valour FC. While the latter held a club option on him for 2026, the club folded and made him a free agent by default.
The 28-year-old made thirty appearances in Valour’s final season, tallying four goals and three assists in a more attack-minded role than he found with Atletico Ottawa, for whom he featured twenty-six times as a right-back, racking up two assists and one goal with a rather infamous knee slide celebration on turf:
“I’m thrilled to have signed Kris, I’ve had lots of conversations with him over the last number of months,” said Galway boss John Caulfield, who was a fan of what he saw during Twardek’s previous spells in Ireland with Bohemian and Sligo Rovers.
“His enthusiasm and eagerness to come back to the league and play for Galway United is infectious.”

Twardek’s caeer got its start at the academy level with Millwall FC. Eventually earning a pro deal with the senior side, he underwent loans to Braintree Town and Carlisle United before moving to Ireland in mid-2018, where he signed with Sligo Rovers.
He would stay on with Sligo for the next one-and-a-half seasons, departing in 2019 despite picking up two of the club’s player of the month nods that year. It was then that he joined Dublin-based side Bohemians ahead of the 2020 season, after which he joined Polish top flight side Jagiellonia Bialystok, with a season-long stint with Slovakian first division side FK Senica preceding his return to Bohemians ahead of the 2022 League of Ireland season.

His last season with the club saw him tally two goals and three assists after 24 appearances split between both the left and right flank, with Bohemian FC reaching the FAI Cup final before losing to David Norman Jr’s a St. Patrick’s Athletic side featuring David Norman Jr.
“Delighted to be back in the League of Ireland,” said Twardek. “Even moreso to be joining Galway United!”
The League of Ireland side just saw a previous CPL player depart, with Jeannot Esua signing with Sligo Rovers. The last season saw Moses Dyer and Malcolm Shaw also have spells with the side, though both have since departed.
