York United will have three players on international duty ahead of the club’s fifth-ever campaign.

We’d reported that Guyana had been eyeing Jonathan Grant for a call-up before the calendar flipped to March, with the 29-year-old now confirmed to be joining the Golden Jaguars for the upcoming international window.

The CPL veteran recently made history as the third athlete to cross 905 Battle lines, signing a one-year deal with York United after four seasons (and three title wins) with league rivals Forge FC.

Guyana will return to competitive action with a Concacaf Nations League B match against Bermuda this Saturday, with a home match against Montserrat set to follow. The team currently rests second in Group B behind an unbeaten Haiti team.

The venture will mark his first foray with the Guyanese national team. Back in 2015, Grant had been been considered with Canada, cracking the travelling squad for two friendliest against Iceland – though the former Canada U-23 man didn’t feature in either fixture.

Grant had made 55 appearances for Forge, appearing just about everywhere on the pitch for Bobby Smyrniotis: he featured as a right midfielder, right-back, and even left-sided forward as needed, with York now intended to use him as a right-back or centre-back.

Guyana is no stranger to CPL talent, having also called up Grant’s former teammates Quillan Roberts and Emery Welshman in the past.

York United will see new defender Brem Soumaoro and star attacker Mo Babouli also feature for Liberia and Syria respectively in this international window.
