Toussaint Set To Commit For Haiti

Pacific midfielder Cedric Toussaint has been named in Haiti’s latest team roster for a friendly match against French Guiana on March 23.

The 22-year-old Canadian Premier League midfielder is entering his fourth season in Canada’s top flight, having tallied some 83 professional appearances split between York United and Pacific FC so far.

Les Grenadiers are facing French Guiana in their opponent’s capital city of Cayenne in a moment that could prove big for Toussaint.

It was first reported that Haiti had reached out to the Quebecois midfielder last fall, with Cedric and his father holding discussions with Haiti boss Angelo Jean-Baptiste. However, the Trident midfielder took his time to consider the offer before making any decision.

Haiti will face Saint Luca and Barbados in their second round of World Cup qualifiers this summer, so should Toussaint commit to the program in the upcoming international window he could have some midsummer national team matches ahead of him.

The Caribbean nation currently finds itself in a state of chaos and disorder, with the country’s prime resigning after he was unable to return to the country due to gang interference.

Cedric isn’t the only Canadian Premier League athlete set to suit up for Haiti next weekend, with Forge defender Garven Metusala also named in the most recent roster.

Toussaint is on the last year of his Pacific deal, and is the son of former Canada youth international Jean-Robert Toussaint.
