Veth: Wanderers Set To Sign Italian Midfielder Giorgio Probo
While the Halifax Wanderers won’t be formally announcing any new signings before January 31, it looks like the cat may be out of the bag for one of them.
Transfermarkt’s Manuel Veth has reported that the club are set to sign former Atalanta youth prospect Giorgio Probo, who went unselected in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft despite a strong campaign with Creighton University.
While Veth states that several MLS sides had approached him with interest to sign the midfielder at the MLS NEXT Pro level, Halifax looks to have hooked the Creighton University standout instead.
Probo wouldn’t be the only Creighton University standout to find himself on the Atlantic coast, with Wanderers midfielder Callum Watson having spent three seasons representing the Bluejays.
Born and raised in Italy, Probo tallied some seventy appearances in Italy’s fourth division for the likes of Atalanta U-17, Virtus Bergamo, and Borgosesia before moving to the US to pursue his post-secondary education.
Prior to his time with Creighton, the midfielder secured USCA Junior College D1 Player of the Year honours with Iowa Western after helping the side to a national championship, tallying three goals and six assists along the way.
His evolution as a midfielder continued at Creighton, with Giorgio tallying an astounding 22 assists and five goals over the last two years ahead of being passed over in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft.
Probo – who follows the Wanderers on Instagram – would prove an intriguing addition to the club’s midfield as head coach Patrice Gheisar follows up on his successful rebuild in 2023, especially as a potential understudy to Lorenzo Callegari.
While nothing is confirmed as of yet, Veth has a strong track record when reporting on CPL signings in the past.
