Wanderers Add Haligonian Teen Yorgos Gavas
The Halifax Wanderers are adding sixteen-year-old local left-back Yorgos Gavas to a developmental contract.
The club’s newest addition began his developed with Halifax Dunbrack before embarking on a stint with the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy. He returned to join the Halifax Wanderers U-23 squad, featuring in two matches against German visitors Holstein Kiel this summer and bagged a goal in the first, while also spending time with local side Suburban FC.
“Yorgos is a young upcoming player with a high ceiling that has fit in well with the group,” states Wanderers boss Patrice Gheisar. “Everyone that knows him says great things, he has the right attitude and comes in ready to learn so we’re excited to have him.”
Wanderers Sporting Director Matt Fegan also stated that the teenager has displayed all the right traits in terms of his technical ability, maturity, dedication, and attituding, suggesting that Yorgos has lent himself well to an early professional opportunity.
His new developmental deal will allow Yorgos to appear in up to six matches this season, and one imagines the Haligonian will get quite a reception should he come on at Wanderers Grounds.
Should he excel, it’s possible the left-footed left-back would be a prime candidate for the league’s new exceptional young talent initiative.
