Pacific Transfer In Canadian Forward Dario Zanatta
UPDATE: Pacific FC has formally announced the forward’s arrival nearly a month afterwards.
The original article continues as follows:
Canadian Premier League side Pacific FC has left it late to reveal their new signings, with Hamilton Academical now revealing that Canadian forward Dario Zanatta is set for the isle.
The third division Scottish side confirmed it has come to terms with Pacific on a permanent transfer for Dario, a two-time Scottish Challenge Cup winner who has scored nine goals for The Accies.
“Dario leaves Accies having played a really significant part in our historic SPFL Trust Trophy success last year,” read the statement from his former side.
“We really wish Dario well in the future and would like to thank him for the part he has played in our club’s history.”
The fee for the transfer was undisclosed, with Hamilton Academical retaining additional incentives and add-ons as part of the deal.
We had listed the striker as one of five Canadians who could land in the CPL after hearing that Vancouver FC had opened talks, though Pacific scooped in to land the striker from their local rivals.
The move to Pacific marks a return home for the Victoria-born player, who has spent his entire professional career abroad after developing with the Whitecaps Academy. After landing in Scotland, Zantta has amassed over 200 appearances for the likes of Raith Rovers, Ayr United, Partick Thistle, Heart of Midlothian, and more.
His time with Hamilton Academical has seen him make 53 appearances over the last two years, contributing nine goals and one assists. He’s been deployed on both flanks of the pitch and up as a striker, though the Accies have had a tough spell and found themselves relegated to the third division last season.
Pacific FC head coach James Merriman has a few shoes to fill up top, particularly with Easton Ongaro and Djenairo Daniels both leaving, while it remains to be seen if Kekuta Manneh will return to the fold.
Pacific is expected to announce a new signing today, with another local island boy in Sean Melvin having been teased on Wednesday.
