‘Heartbroken’: Vancouver Defender Tyler Crawford Out For Rest Of Season

Vancouver FC has confirmed that defender Tyler Crawford will miss the rest of the regular season through injury, though it’s unclear if – should the club make playoffs – he could return in time to feature.

“We were heartbroken to witness Tyler’s injury,” said Vancouver FC head coach Afshin Ghotbi today. “His dedication, commitment, and training habits will be vital in his swift recovery. We are rooting for Tyler and cannot wait to see him back on the pitch fully fit and in form.”

Crawford first arrived to the club from the NCAA circuit with Michigan State, prior to which he had proven to be a standout in the Columbus Crew Academy, winning the Academy Player of the Year award in 2021.

His rookie season saw represent The Eagles 23 times, with 2024 seeing him make just eight appearances for Vancouver. In his absence, both Paris Gee and James Cameron have featured in the left-back role.

The defender had already fought back from an injury earlier this season. That knock forced him off in a three-nil loss to York United, with Crawford missing the next eight matches. He would play a further six matches before being sidelined for the last seven games, with Vancouver’s announcement now confirming he won’t be back for the final three.

finds itself just one point shy of a playoff position with three games left to play. Crawford’s team will face bottom half side Halifax Wanderers and Valour before closing out with a tough home match against Atletico Ottawa.

Head coach Afshin Ghotbi has made some late-season adjustments in an effort to get them over the line, sending Kembo Kibato to York United in exchange for Austin Ricci. A little over a month ago, they also sent Moses Dyer to rival side Pacific FC in exchange for Ayman Sellouf.

We wish Tyler Crawford all the best in his recovery.
