The Halifax Wanderers FC, still looking for their first away win of the 2023 season, probably thought that coming to bottom of the table Vancouver FC was the place to get it.

Despite the Wanderers dominating the early possession, Gabriel Bitar – clearly onside – ran onto a cross-box pass from Min-Jae Kwak to open the scoring.

Halifax responded quickly from the restart, when Massimo Ferrin headed the ball down inside the six-yard box for Tiago Coimbra to toe across the line and level the score.

Wanderers continued to have the majority of the possession and were gifted an opportunity to go-ahead when Jeremy Zielinski’s poor clearance was picked up by Ferrin, shooting back into the arms of Zielinski.

In minute 56, Shaan Hundal teed up a ball for new boy Mikael Cantave to slot into the bottom right-hand corner of Yann Fillion’s net, to make the score 2-1, which is where it stayed.

That result takes Vancouver FC off the bottom of the table, one point ahead of Atletico Ottawa, who have two games in-hand.
