League leaders FC Cincinnati were in Vancouver to play a Whitecaps team that were on a high, having been crowned Canadian Champions in mid-week.

A frantic start to the game saw missed opportunities from both teams, but with Vancouver having the majority of the early chances.

The stalemate continued for the first two-thirds of the game, until both teams made a series of substitutions: the Whitecaps brought on Ryan Gauld and Julian Gressel in an attempt to add some attacking impetus, while Cincinnati hoped for the same with Santiago Arias and Luciano Acosta.

It wasn’t until the 83rd minute that these substitution had a true impact, when FC Cincinnati Captain Matt Miazga picked out Luciano Acosta who, after out-pacing defender Ranko Veselinovic, chipped the ball over the head of Yohei Takaoka to open the scoring.

Six minutes later, Sergio Cordova was pushed over in the box and Ryan Gauld converted from the spot to level the game.

FC Cincinnati remain eight points clear of Nashville in the Eastern Conference, while Vancouver Whitecaps hold onto sixth place in the Western Conference – though Houston, whom they toasted 6-2 last week, have a game in hand.
