In Photos: Cascadia Triumph As Whitecaps Best Portland
With only one point separating these two teams going into the first Cascadia meeting of the season, this had all the makings of tight game.
Timbers goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic had a busy game and for the most part, keeping the scoreline even.
The Whitecaps finally managed to put the ball in the net after 29 minutes, but were ruled offside. The game remained at 0-0 by the end of first half.
The second half continued much as the first, with the Portland Timbers keeper the star player, but it was just a matter of time before the deadlock was broken in minute 71, with Julian Gressel sending a ball across the face of goal that was intercepted by Brian White for the only goal of the game.
