In Photos: Whitecaps Earn First Point Of 2023 Against FC Dallas
A rather lacklustre and uninspiring game, saw the Vancouver Whitecaps pick up their first point of the 2023 season.
A game that started frantic with play at both ends was suddenly lit up with a fifth minute goal converted by FC Dallas defender Sebastien Ibeagha, who got on the end of a cross from Nkosi Tafari.
Dallas continued to press looking for a second goal, but unable to capitalize from several corner kicks.
The occasional breakaway from the Whitecaps failed to trouble Dallas keeper Maarten Paes, with their best chances coming from Ryan Gauld in the 25th minute.
A change of fortune for the Whitecaps in minute 34 when a cross from Javian Brown was flicked into the box by Ranko Veselinovic. Dallas Captain Paul Arriola was first to get a toe on it, putting it firmly into his own net, levelling the game at 1-1.
The Whitecaps had one more chance at goal with a shot from Brian White which was pushed past the post by Maarten Paes for the last touch of the half.
The second half saw few chances, with neither keeper being particularly troubled. In minute 50 Ryan Gauld shot across the face of goal, with no one able to convert. Later in the half Marco Farfan had a shot that was way over the goal, frustrations building on both sides with some sloppy fouls resulting in yellow cards for both sides.
The Vancouver Whitecaps had the final chance of the game when Sergio Cordova was unable to get on the end of a teasing ball sent across the face of goal by Ranko Veselinovic, ending the game all square at 1-1.
