Inter Toronto Adds Keeper Antonio Campos

The new Inter Toronto Football Club era will start with young ‘keepers between the sticks.

With the club having already confirmed that 21-year-old shotstopper Ivan Pavela would be returning, the freshly-rebranded Canadian Premier League side has now signed 19-year-old Antonio Campos to his first professional contract.

As the son of former LA Galaxy and national team goalkeeper Jorge Campos – who graced York Lions Stadium before in 2014 as a special guest – he carries quite a lineage with him.

It marks the second time the club has brought in inter-generational since the Pasquels have arrived, with the son of Rafa Marquez, Santiago Marquez, spending time with the team in 2024.

The club has had a long runway of time to evaluate the young keeper, with Antonio having trained with the club back in 2024. He was enrolled at Cal State Fullerton last year, serving as an understudy goalkeeper who did not feature for the NCAA side.

Inter Toronto evidently believes Campos has a bright future ahead of him and has never shied away from bringing in young talent.

“Antonio is a young goalkeeper with a strong foundation and the right mentality,” says Inter Toronto Football Club head coach Mauro Eustaquio. “He’s coachable, focused, and has shown a real willingness to learn. This is an important first step in his professional journey, and we believe our environment will allow him to continue developing at the right pace.”

No word on whether the young Campos will start in net but sneak a few minutes in a striker, as his father Jorge was known to do.

Last season saw the club split the starting role between young Pavela and veteran loanee Diego Urtiago. The club’s final season as York United finished with a playoff quarter-final loss to Cavalry FC.

The back line in front of Campos was recently bolstered by the return of Frank Sturing, with Inter Toronto Football Club making some head-turning acquisitions with the likes of Beni Badibanga, Ollie Bassett, and Liga MX veteran Raul Lopez.
