Estonia For Egwu: Former Eddies Defender Trialing With Top Flight Side

Former FC Edmonton defender Kelsey Egwu will test himself on trial with Estonian top flight side JK Narva Trans.

The 20-year-old defender spent last season in League1 Ontario with FC London, featuring in every single game before training with Toronto FC II after the L1O season wrapped.

He would even feature on the bench for TFC2 in its regular season closer against Crown Legacy FC, though Egwu never ultimately signed with the team and will now test himself abroad.

Egwu had tested Canadian Premier League waters with a developmental deal two years ago, making his professional debut against Pacific FC. While the Eddies lost out 2-1, Egwu played all ninety minutes in a match that pitted him against the likes of Marco Bustos, Alejandro Diaz, and Josh Heard.

While his former side FC London finished in the bottom half of the table, the club helped another Eddie in Darlington Murasiranwa launch himself back into the pro ranks, signing a pro deal with Valour FC back in August.

While JK Narva Trans rest in Estonia’s top flight, they’ll be working hard to make improvements after avoiding relegation by just one spot last year. They recorded the second-worst goals against in the league, an area that centre-back Egwu will be hoping to help with should he impress on trial.

The Toronto-born defender wouldn’t be the first Canadian Premier League export to land with the Estonian top flight team, with former York United defender Ryan Lindsay signing with them until he retired following a medical scare in 2022.
