League1 Alberta’s Opening Day Set For May

This week saw League1 Alberta announce that its opening weekend of action for the 2023 Exhibition Series will be taking place on May 12 through two venues across the province.

These opening two matches have the Calgary Foothills taking on Edmonton Scottish SC while Born To Be Soccer Club will be taking on Cavalry FC’s U-23 side (men’s) and the Calgary Blizzard SC women’s team.

L1AB seems to be taking a page out of the book of their sister league in BC as the opening two games will both feature double-headers, with the clubs’ mens and women’s teams both taking to the pitch.

There does exist an asterisk, of course, to these double-headers as Cavalry FC U23 will only be fielding a men’s team whereas the Calgary Blizzard will only be fielding a women’s team.

It also seems that this post has confirmed where BTB SC will be calling their home turf for the 2023 series with it listing BTB as the home team at Clarke Field, the former home of the CPL’s now-defunct FC Edmonton.

As for the other match, while it can be assumed that the Foothills will be returning to their home turf at the Foothills Composite High School, the league has yet to confirm the venue for their match vs Edmonton Scottish.

League1 Alberta is slated to release the remaining games, including the opening match for the St. Albert Impact, in the coming weeks.
