League1 Canada Men’s Review: Week 18

By on August 13, 2025 0 1970 Views

Another League1 Canada province saw their division come to an end for the 2025 season this past week. Meanwhile, another is fast approaching its own conclusion.

There was still a lot that happened in Ontario and Quebec over the last week. Northern Tribune takes a look back at all matches that transpired during that time.

This recap features League1’s men’s divisions. If you are looking for this week’s women’s review, the last one of the year, you can find that here.

League1 Alberta: Cavs Finish Season On High

A week after League1 Alberta’s dramatic finale, there was one remaining match, albeit a dead rubber. That game took place at Shouldice Athletic Park, as Cavalry U-21 defeated Calgary Villains 2-0. A Niko Myroniuk goal in each half did the trick for the young Cavs as they closed the season with a fifth win.

This is how the final standings look. Calgary Blizzard will represent the league in next year’s Canadian Championship as the Villains finished bottom without a point in their maiden year.

League1 Ontario: Crunch Time

The season is quickly wrapping up in Ontario. League2 concluded last week, but the Premier and Championship divisions still have ways to go in the final two weeks. Here is what happened in the latest round of play.

League1 Ontario Premier: Woodbridge On the Cusp

It was another dramatic week of football in the top tier in Ontario. Friday kicked things off with a seven-goal thriller. In the end, Alliance United edged St. Catharines Roma Wolves 4-3. Despite going down a man just before the interval, the hosts continued to make the match competitive. In the end, they fell short, losing another player just before full time.

Saturday’s lone contest saw North Toronto Nitros draw 1-1 against Scrosoppi in a shocking result. Miles Green’s opener was cancelled out in the 93rd minute by Cyrus Rollocks, as the Milton-based guests lost out on two points.

That proved to be costly for Scrosoppi, as Woodbridge Strikers topped FC London 7-1 in a dominant showing on Sunday night. Anthony Morano netted a hattrick for the league leaders in a huge win. Sunday’s other two games ended 2-0 for the visiting side. Vaughan Azzurri prevailed against Burlington SC, while Oakville SC got past Sigma.

Woodbridge is on the precipice of winning their first-ever League1 Ontario title. They already assured their best finish in the league since 2017. North Toronto is almost assured the playoff place, whereas FC London looks set for an immediate return to the Championship Division.

Woodbridge will seal the title on Saturday if they avoid defeat at Scrosoppi. Also that day will be North Toronto’s clash with Vaughan, and FC London hosting Oakville. Simcoe County Rovers will face Alliance on Sunday.

League1 Ontario Championship: Title Race and Promotion With Dramatic Turns

The Championship Division will be worth the following heading into the final two weeks of play. Last round did not disappoint with some intriguing results.

Tuesday saw The Borough prevail 3-1 at Guelph United as the guests scored thrice in 20 minutes during the opening half to seal the win. Friday night had a pair of 1-1 stalemates. Waterloo United and Windsor City scored their goals six minutes apart shortly after the restart. It was a similar story between North Mississauga and Pickering FC, though the goal came a bit later on.

Saturday housed the other three games. Aidan O’Keefe’s winner 15 minutes from time gave Master’s FA a huge 1-0 victory over Sudbury Cyclones. York United Academy held on for a 3-2 success versus Whitby FC, while Unionville Milliken impressed in a 4-1 win at Hamilton United Elite.

There are just two full rounds to go in the second tier, and the promotion race is heating up. The top four sides are separated by just three points, with two more clubs in contention for the promotion playoff berths. Sudbury still holds the lead, but it is no longer in their hands, as The Borough and Unionville have a game in hand over the Cyclones.

Next week will have seven games. Unionville heads to Guelph on Tuesday with a chance to take the league lead. Whitby faces Windsor on Friday, while North Mississauga welcomes Waterloo. Saturday’s two contests pit together Sudbury and Hamilton, as well as Pickering and Master’s. On Sunday, The Borough hosts York Academy, and Unionville faces Guelph again – this time at home.

Ligue1 Quebec: One Title Crowned, Two to Go

Things are going quickly across Quebec as the first season under the three-tiered system seldom disappoints. One team clinched a domestic title on the weekend, with another drawing closer as well. Here is a look back on how things got on in La Belle Provence.

Ligue1 Quebec: St-Laurent Captures League Crown

None of the five away teams managed to win last week in Ligue1 Quebec as another round was completed. Friday night saw a 1-1 draw between Celtix du Haut-Richelieu and CS St-Hubert. The goals came six minutes of each other in the first half in a match that ended 10 vs 10.

Royal Select Beauport prevailed 3-0 over CS Longueuil to commence Saturday’s play. Ottawa South United and FC Laval could not be separated in their 1-1 tie later on in the day. Mouhamadou Kane got a 38th minute winner for AS Laval, as they ended CS St-Laurent’s unbeaten run with a 2-1 success. AS Blainville wrapped up the week with a 3-0 defeat of CS Mont-Royal Outremont on Sunday.

Despite losing to their closest challengers, St-Laurent clinched the Ligue1 Quebec title on Saturday courtesy of head-to-head goal difference (they had won the reverse fixture 3-0). For most of the league, the final two matchdays will be dead rubbers ahead of the Coupe L1 Quebec, which occurs in September. Only the top eight sides will be involved, meaning Ottawa and especially Longueuil have their work cut out.

Speaking of Longueuil, they face St-Hubert to start things off on Saturday. Sunday will have the other four matches. FC Laval battles AS Laval, Blainville welcomes Celtix, St-Laurent meets Beauport, and CSMRO takes on Ottawa.

Ligue2 Quebec: LaSalle, Lakeshore, Montreal-Centre Win Big

The Ligue2 Quebec campaign is entering its final stretch, with much still on the line. Wednesday had the opening match of the week, as CS Roussillon topped Boreal FC 2-0. Saturday then had the remaining 12 fixtures. AS St-Leonard held CS Trident to a 1-1 draw at home, while Lakeshore SC won 5-0 at AS Brossard. Andre Philippe-Adrien netted twice for the visitors in the victory.

Roussillon prevailed once again, this time in a 6-3 result versus CS Boucherville. Amine Khettal’s 67th minute goal helped Revolution FC pull off a 2-1 success against Mistral de Sherbrooke. AS Gatineau’s winning streak hit eight after topping CSRDP 3-0, while CS St-Lazare Hudson edged CF L’International de Quebec 3-2.

St-Jerome’s hopes for Ligue2 survival increased after a 4-1 defeat of AS Montis. As for CS LaSalle, they had five different scorers as they downed CS Braves Ahuntsic 5-1. Panellinios pulled off a 1-0 result over AS Chaudiere-Ouest, denting the latter’s hopes of reaching the promotion playoffs.

Another 6-3 game occurred in Trois-Rivieres, as CS Trois-Rivieres came out on top versus CS Levis-Est. Union Lanaudiere Sud piled further misery on Boreal with a 3-0 road win. As for CS Montreal-Centre, they impressed in an 8-1 victory over Phenix des Rivieres. Four goals in either half did the trick for the hosts as they earned their 12th win on the year.

LaSalle is now the only senior League1 team across the country to be unbeaten. They maintain their eight-point gap at the top. Phenix’s heavy loss saw them drop into the relegation zone. Speaking of relegation, AS Brossard became the first team to officially go down after their loss. Boreal looks set to join them, trailing 14th place by 14 points with five to play.

Phenix will have their shot at redemption next Saturday in what could be seen as the match of the week. They face the side right above them, Trois-Rivieres, on the road. Montreal-Centre also battles Union Lanaudiere Sud in a crucial promotion playoff matchup.

Ligue3 Quebec: Longueuil B Returns to Winning Ways

Six matches in Ligue3 Quebec occurred last week, with another ending in a 3-0 forfeit win in favour of CS Fury de Rimouski over CS Lanaudiere-Nord. Wednesday’s play saw CSMRO B top FC Anjou 3-2. Boreal d’Alma came from two down against Senior Venturi to earn a 2-2 draw. As for leaders Longueuil B, they returned to winning ways after a 3-1 success at CS Titans. AS Laval B topped Celtix B 5-0 in the other game that night.

Notre-Dame-de-Grace SA grabbed their second win of the year in a tight 1-0 success versus CS Haute-St-Charles on Saturday. Boreal d’Alma was in action again, claiming a convincing 4-0 victory at Mondial de Riviere-du-Loup.

Longueuil B has clinched a playoff spot, with four games to spare, in their case. Boreal d’Alma, Venturi, and Fury de Rimouski are the other three sides currently in the top four. Mondial de RDP and Chevailers NDMC, are still in the running, though they are running out of time.

Boreal d’Alma and Venturi will have the chance to clinch their playoff places next week. The former hosts NDGSA, while the latter takes on AS Laval B. Longueuil B will have the chance to win the regular season in their match versus Haute-St-Charles.
