League1 Canada Men’s Review: Week 19
By The final rounds of the League1 Ontario Premier Division and Ligue 1 Quebec seasons have just occurred. With the season just about wrapped up, we can finally take a look at how things ended up.

In what is the final weekly recap, here is everything that happened in the final rounds of the League1 Canada season.
League1 Ontario Premier: Scrosoppi Defends Regular Season Title
The League1 Ontario Premier Division season finished at the start of September. There were two games on 28 August, with Sigma beating Woodbridge Strikers 2-1 away, and, more significantly, Scrosoppi topping Alliance United 1-0. The latter result put last year’s regular season winners within touch of defending their crown.
And that was exactly what they did. A 2-0 victory over Prostars on 31 August confirmed that Scrosoppi won the league title for the second year in a row. They finished their season last week Wednesday with a 3-0 win over Burlington SC.
As for the remaining matches from the final weekend of the season, North Toronto Nitros was awarded a 3-0 forfeit win over Alliance. Burlington came from 2-0 down to beat Hamilton United Elite 3-2 at McMaster. Hamilton finished the season with no wins in the league (and cup), and will be relegated to the League1 Ontario Championship Division for next season.
Vaughan Azzurri, who just missed out on the title, put five past the Blue Devils in a comfortable 5-0 victory. Despite scoring a league-high 60 goals, the Azzurri still ended up playing second fiddle, finishing four points behind Scrosoppi. Finally, a thrilling game ended 3-3 between Guelph United and Simcoe County Rovers. The latter equalized with a 96th minute goal from Diego Herrera to end the season with a crazy result.
This is the final standings, with Scrosoppi finishing on 53 points (the tweet came before their win against Burlington).
L1 Cup: Vaughan Reigns Supreme Once More
For the fourth time in club history, Vaughan Azzurri is the L1 Cup champion. This time, the competition’s most successful club defeated Simcoe County Rovers in the final on penalties.
The game finished 1-1 after normal time, with Jevontae Layne’s early opener cancelled out by Gabriel Boakye 10 minutes from time. In the shootout, Vaughan scored their last three spot kicks to win 3-1.

Ligue1 Quebec: Blainville Finishes Strong
The final matches of the Ligue1 Quebec season took place this past week. Between our last L1QC review and now, six games occurred. Within them, they produced some interesting results.
On the final day of August, Academie CF Montreal got the better of AS Laval 3-1. Nael Mamadou Kone put the hosts in front, only for ASL to respond through Shawn Viau. However, Kone was not done, adding a second shortly after the restart that would prove to be the winner. Owen Graham-Roache’s goal just past the hour mark put the match solidly in CFM’s favour.
Last Wednesday, AS Blainville drew 1-1 with Celtix du Haut Richelieu. Maxime Nobert’s opener after 24 minutes was cancelled out by Jerry Sana an hour in. However, just four days later, Blainville defeated the league champions FC Laval 5-0. Five different players got on the scoresheet for the four-time champions.
Royal Select Beauport and CS St-Hubert played to a fun 2-2 draw at Stade Beauport. Both sides had the lead at one point, but could not grab all three points. As a result, the clubs had to settle for the draw to close out their respective regular seasons.
Also on Saturday, Longueuil came from a goal down to beat CS Mont-Royal Outremont 3-1 away. An early Joseph Saint Simon put the home side in front, only for Jordan Nagoussi and Elliot Viel to turn things around before halftime. A third was added just before the end of the game for Longueuil to grab the win.
Outgoing champions CS St-Laurent also came from behind in their final game, winning 3-1 at Celtix du Haut Richelieu. CSSL was in front by the half, with their opening two goals coming very late in the opening period. A stoppage time goal in the second half ensured St-Laurent the win.
So, FC Laval wins their second league title, a mere two points over defending champions CS Saint-Laurent. AS Blainville had a strong end to their campaign to end up in third place. St-Hubert and RS Beauport, both on 27 points, ended up fourth and fifth respectively. CF Montreal grabbed 26 points for sixth, while Longueuil finished one spot and two poitnts lower. Ottawa South United just pipped CSMRO for eight despite both teams being on 23 points. Celtix and AS Laval ended up in the bottom two positions.
The Remaining Schedule
There are only two more things of note to happen in the League1 Canada season. In L1O, the promotion and relegation playoff between St. Catharines Roma Wolves and Guelph United will occur on Wednesday. This will confirm the final place in each of the Premier and Championship Divisions for next season.
As for L1QC, the Coupe will take place over the next few weeks. The quarterfinals, all this coming weekend, are as follows: FC Laval vs Ottawa South United, St-Laurent vs Longueuil, AS Blainville vs Académie CF Montreal, and St-Hubert vs RS Beauport. The cup only contains the top eight sides from the regular season.
Do note that the winner of this competition does not qualify for next year’s Canadian Championship, as that berth is awarded to the regular season winner, FC Laval.
